A neat and compact little home for folks ready to leave apartment living without wanting the hassles involved with the upkeep of a huge house. This home, called La Plata, is a one bedroom, one bathroom gem of a tidy and functional modular design—and it has plenty of natural sunlight to boot.

The materials used are both efficient and cost-effective: recycled glass and wood and climate-controlling stone that keeps it cool in summer and warm in winter. Let's take a look!

Awash in white

The outer façade of the home has been made of bright white stone and middle brown wood panels, keeping the home cool by reflecting sunlight, but also making the house look fresh, clean and organic.

Glass house

The two length-wise walls are nearly all glass, a mix of slider doors, windows and regular glass doors, ensuring every space in the house has accent to the outside, which will eventually be planted with lush grass and lounge furniture. All of the windows have been wisely set as niche windows though, so as to prevent too much glare and heat from the sun, and have additionally been outfitted with Mediterranean white, retractable sun canopies.

Simple kitchen

A thin, L-shaped black island juts from the wall, making for a sleek and serviceable main kitchen counter. Equally modern and minimalist sink and stovetop have been installed so chefs will not want for supplies or style in here. We love especially that the kitchen has been kept open to the rest of the main living space, which we will explore now.

Small space living large

A smart built-in shelf serves as the clean white backdrop for this cosy living area; it has space enough for a flat screen television plus much more. Chairs and coffee table have been arranged to optimise sociability and views out the two sides of the house.

Private enough for study

The little office area, created at the window just aside the living and kitchen, has been privileged by the tall concrete wall surrounding the house outside—providing the type of privacy not given by small flats. So as you study or write, you have a calming view of the blue skies and trees without the distraction of your neighbours’ noise or activities.  Welcome to serene modular living!
