As the new year approaches, it's that time of year again to go through your house, room-by-room and do a proper deep cleaning. A new years' cleaning should include far more than your average daily or weekly cleaning sessions. This will require a group effort from your families and perhaps even calls to local professionals.  If a fresh start is what's in store, then you need to make sure that things not only look better, but are cleaner and safer for all those who enter your home.

Yes, deep floor cleaning and trips to the dry cleaners are in store, but so are new window treatments and fresh coats of paint – and let's not forget the months (or years) worth of mineral build up in bathrooms and on glass.  Everything mentioned in the list below will get you moving in the right direction to have a happy and healthy start to the New Years!

1. Fresh coats of stark white

Any rooms in your home that are white or even off-white need a fresh coat of paint. Grab all the old paint buckets and do a clean sweep of the entire house to get it looking brand new.

2. Deep clean the bathroom

Grab the bleach and vinegar, wipe down all surfaces, clean out the vents and don't forget even the tiny crevices!

3. Deep clean the kitchen

Again, grab the bleach (preferably vinegar) and spray it everywhere in your kitchen. Letting a mixture of vinegar and water sit everywhere overnight (stoves and ovens included) will make it easier to wipe off the next morning and you'll be shocked at the results.

4. Clean up the patio area in preparation for summer months

Sweep off the patio, reseal the wood and clean the outdoor textiles and properly store them so when the warmer months come back around you'll be ready for outdoor parties in no time.

5. Dust off and trim interior plants

Interior plants are great, but they require maintenance too. Keep them dusted and properly trimmed as to not add excess dust into your home.

6. Use vinegar to deep-clean bathroom glass

Spaying a mixture of vinegar and water on all bathroom surfaces (and leaving it one at least 15 minutes) will easily remove all kalk and hardwater stains!

7. Have floors professionally cleaned and polished

Bring the professionals in for this one! Take care of your hardwood floors to get them looking brand new and shiny once again.

8. Prep your entryway

Add fresh quotes of paint and steam the floor to get your entryway looking new as ever – also take all the light fixtures down and soak and scrub them for a brand new feel. There are plenty of professionals on homify to check out that can easily give you ideas of how to prep-up your entryway!

9. Add wallpaper to rooms with wall imperfections

For rooms with small imperfections, scrapes and scratches, consider a fresh coat of wallpaper. This will make any room look cleaner and add a new design!

10. Deep clean bedding and textiles

Take all the bedding off – even the mattress pads – and take them to be professionally cleaned. For those with allergies, add a fresh spray of anti-allergy solution for a better nights' sleep.

11. Don't forget the children's rooms!

Children are messy and super prone to infection – so cleaning their spaces is even more important than yours!

12. Don't forget the ceiling

Dust the ceiling and add fresh coats of paint – done!

13. Reseal wood and concrete floors and walls

If you have wood floors to concrete floors and walls, make sure to check if they need resealing! This will give them a fresh sheen and make them last longer.

14. Disinfect and clean all windows

Windows are access points into all areas of our home – so keeping them wiped down and free and clear of insects and dust is incredibly important!
