Everybody knows that a staple piece of furniture in a truly stylish living room is a strikingly beautiful coffee table and while it's terrifically simple to just plump for a cost-effective glass coffee table IKEA-bought or otherwise, it doesn't take much effort to source something a little more exciting and dynamic.

There are a host of amazing side table styles to choose from these days, but certain designs are more eye-catching and incredible than others, which is why we've put this guide together, to showcase some of our all-time favourites. Every table that we've selected here offers a huge dose of elegance, not to mention timeless appeal and a wonderful amount of extra practicality as well. After all, if a lovely living room has been curated, nobody wants to have to place cups and glasses on the floor, do they?

How about a glass coffee table with shelf space?

What a charming little coffee table this is! Not only does it look pretty, it is also incredibly functional as well, thanks to the inclusion of a lower shelf. The glass top makes for a perfect surface for stowing glasses and cups, on a coaster of course, while the shelf underneath is ideal for displaying books, magazine and even keeping the remote controls safe as well.

This particular table is very on-trend, thanks to the warm metallic finish of the structure and the stylish rounded corners.

A glass coffee table, black-finish included.

If there are any two materials that always work well together it's a black frame with a simple glass top, as this gorgeous table proves. What we particularly like about this design is that the frame is chunky and stoic, but still simple and understated, while the glass top prevents the whole look from being a bit too 'solid'. There's such a Scandinavian meets minimalist element here too, which is so fashionable.

The marvel of minimalist coffee tables.

Well, coffee tables don't get much more minimal and unfussy than this one and what a look! The exceptionally simple design means that this is a table that would look great in a living room of any style or size, as it the see-through structure allows for more dramatic furniture items to maintain the focus.

Of course, coasters would be essential on a coffee table of this style, as nothing looks worse than water stains on glass, but some geometric options would be a perfectly complementary addition.

Small glass coffee table ideas.

So many people seem to negate a coffee table in a living room because they worry about swallowing up all the available floor space, but a compact design will work very well indeed. Choose a more modest design, with a glass top included and the finished aesthetic will be one that looks proportional and pretty, but not too overbearing.

We love this design, as the lower shelf has been designed in such a way as to add in a little bit of craftsmanship and flair, without requiring the overall structure to be enormous.

Mirrored glass coffee tables.

If clear glass isn't quite the desired aesthetic, choosing a mirrored finish might be a terrific alternative. The reflective finish will still allow light flow to be maximised, while also creating a beautiful focal point in a living room and adding a wealth of practical surface space to boot.

It's worth noting that mirrored coffee tables might be a little more expensive than some other designs, but in a simply furnished and elegant space, they can be an investment well worth making.

Round glass coffee tables.

Not all coffee tables have to be angular, as this absolutely stunning and ergonomically pleasing design proves! Aside from the sweeping wooden support structure, the round glass top adds in such a lovely dose of easy breezy styling and when coupled with a curved sofa, as seen here, the finished aesthetic is one that screams of relaxation and cosy nights in. Let's not forget the added bonus of there being no concerns about walking into the corners and causing some serious shin pain!

Square glass coffee table styles.

Square coffee tables aren't anything new, but adding a touch of homemade charm can really transform a staple design into a more unusual and dramatic centrepiece in a living room. Take a look at this incredible upcycled pallet table, complete with a clear glass top and it's instantly apparent that a little elbow grease, creativity and time can result in a very special and beautifully unique piece of furniture that will fulfil every need. What's more, a table of this style would cost very little to actually make.
