Operated by its founder and head designer, Milan-born architect Marco Braghiroli, Prestige Architects Ltd. has been adding a strong dose of excellence to structures and designs since 2009. Taking his expertise gained from his architectural studies at the Politecnico of Milan, as well as interior design studies at the University of Hasselt in Belgium, Marco moved to London to begin training in some of the UK's leading architectural companies. Prestige Architect has been committed to bespoke high-end results for its ever-growing list of clientele from day one, as is evidenced by its ever-growing portfolio.

Today, we get to relish in one of the firm’s prime portfolio pieces: an updated chalet located in mountainous Leysin near Gstaad, Switzerland.

Background info on the project

Prestige Architect was appointed in 2014 to extend this existing chalet (which has an area layout of 260 m²), as well as give it an entire makeover inside and out. Part of the project entailed creating a new side extension to accommodate a ground-floor spa and new dining area

The professionals’ traditional approach to this design resulted in a beautiful blend between old surfaces and new finishes / pieces. Materials like stone cladding and timber structures ensure strong visual character via patterns and textures throughout.

No wonder, then, that this project was nominated at the Design Awards in 2016.

The living room

A warm ambience is immediately appreciated in the open-plan socialising area, where one can pick and choose between various seating options. In addition, a fireplace, piano, timber-coated surfaces, warm glows of light, and eye-catching landscape views all contribute to an unsurpassed atmosphere that adds to this chalet’s character.

The dining room

The delightful dance between pattern and texture continue in the formal dining room. An elongated timber table with complementing leather chairs provide adequate seating space for diners. A stone-clad fireplace becomes a most inspiring focal point in the background. And a charming chandelier constructed from deer horns silently dangle high above the dining zone (and remains a most interesting conversation topic).

The kitchen

A modern cooking space awaits. Here, a range of appliances and equipment are ready to help whip up any snack or meal. Adequate counters ensure there is more than enough surfaces for meal prepping and displaying.

Our favourite piece here? Undoubtedly those colourful backsplashes which add so much visual splendour (and a dose of fun) to this modern kitchen.

The bathroom

The rich display of texture continues into the most private zones of the chalet, including this bathroom. Two kinds of wood were used to clad up the floors, walls and ceiling, yet both visually link up with the surrounding Swiss forests in a most inspiring way.

The spa

On the ground floor we find the spa, where one can revel in amazing landscape views while soaking deliciously in a hot Jacuzzi. Notice that, in terms of materials, more stone and tile make up the cladding here as opposed to wood – a very practical choice which also ups the space’s interior style and gives it a fresh, relaxing (yet still very elegant) vibe.
